Who, at 67 years old seemed to hike to all 11 hours like it was no big deal!! He is amazing! I hope that when I'm 67 I can do half the stuff he does!
Also Kandices Brother Daryll, his Daughter Jordan and a friend of hers...
I only had a picture of Jordan.
Also Kandices Sister Valerie and a friend of hers...
I only had a pic of Valerie as well.
It it amazing up there!! The moon was beautiful and the higher we hiked it just seemed to get bigger and bigger. The idea is to hike up there on a full moon so you don't need a flashlight. Well we found many people who took that a little too serious. You have to have a flashlight!! The trail is so rocky and uneven that one wrong step and you could slip and die, no joke! So we all made to to what is called the saddle, which is where you first come to the top of the mountain from the backside and can see Utah Valley. Then it is another 45 minute very steep and scary hike to the top of the mountain. LeEarl, myself, Valerie and her friend continued to the top. At the top there is this little building and big steep cliffs, and until the sun has been up for a little while it's freezing up there! Hard to believe when it is 90 in the valley, but it was freezing cold up there. So we didn't stick around at the top very long. You can come down either the same way you went up or hike a little further and then slide down the glacier. We opted for the same way we came up...next year I intend to slide down the glacier! This is my second trip up there (last time I was 17) and haven't done the glacier either time, so next time for sure. I took tons of pics so here are a few... This is Utah Valley from the saddle at 4 am. The moonlight made Utah Lake look like this big satin sheet.
This is Utah Valley at 6:30 am just as the sun was coming up
This as the moon went down it turned this crazy orange color.
This is a sequence of the sunrise over Heber
This is from the very top looking at Emerald Lake. It sits in this beautiful basin right below the top.
If you open this pic you can see on the left side, a Little building that sits next to Emerald Lake. You can hike up there and sleep in it if you would like...I say no thank you.
This is Utah Valley as the sun came up.
LeEarl, Me & Valerie at the top...Brrrrrr.
This is at the top looking south. You can kind of see where you hike over to slide down the glacier.
Looking east you can see Deer Creek in the back, and down in the right corner you can see how rocky the top is.
Looking northeast you can see Jordanelle Reservoir, and down on the left you can see one of the posts for the building at the top.
This is the building that is at the top. There were so many people at the top. It was hard to find a place to stand up there, Hence why there are strangers in so many of my pics.
Looking north. Just about in the middle and a little to the right there is a large white spot...that is Silver Lake Flats. Then over on the left at the bottom more of those crazy cliffs at the top.
At the top looking back to the saddle. If you open this pic large you can see all the people hiking up over on the left. Also you can see northern Utah Valley, the point of the mountain, Salt Lake Valley and The Great Salt Lake.
I took this one of all these Koo Koo people who hike up there and pitch tents everywhere.
This is looking back at the top on our way down. Look at all those crazy people up there!!
On the way down looking at the first big climb after the saddle. You can see all the people hiking out on the from face of Timp. Where that sunny part drops is where it drops down to the saddle.
On the way down you can see Dry Canyon on the left and Battle Creek Canyon on the right with G mountain between them.
On the way from the top back to the saddle as we came around this big rocky point the sun finally hit us.
Here's another of the building on top that I took on our way down.
Just another shot on our way down. You can see all the people along the left making their way up the last part.
There are the most beautiful wild flowers up there that just seem to grow wherever and out of anything...
This is the second basin you come down to looking towards the first where Emerald Lake is. The patch of snow right in the center is the glacier you would slide down to Emerald Lake on.
This is the backside of the top peak.
This is the glacier zoomed in. If you look close you can see people sliding down the center.
On our way down we heard this helicopter and it kept getting louder and louder until we came around a corner and saw this...
I don't know officially what happened. We just heard that some girl had hypothermia. By the time we got down to where the helicopter was we had already taken off our warm clothes because it was so hot, but when we got down to where this girl was the sun still hadn't made it there and it was freezing. She probably got her feet wet in one of the many streams you have to go through along the trail, and then stopped for a break. That's when it was cold, anytime you stopped for a break. As long as your moving it was ok. The helicopter couldn't land anywhere close to where she was so they had to hoist her out
The only waterfall I saw the whole time. I guess with all the snow gone already thats the breaks.
And finally back to the parking lot 11 hours later.
One last thing...we'll see if and how the video options work on blogger!
