Success!!

Back in April I cut some little starts off one of our clematis. In fact I cut a start off each one of them at our front door. This is the one on the east side of our porch.

It is short and bushy...he he he I said bushy! It gets these blue-purple flowers that are like 6 or 7 inches across. We have never decided what kind of clematis it is and we have never found another one. However this is the one that attracts a crowd every spring when it blooms...

Then we have this one on the west side that is called a jackmani clematis.

It is probably 10 or 11 feet tall and gets these deep violet flowers that are about 2 or 3 inches, but it gets hundreds of them!

So I take a start off each one and put them in a bottle of water. The jackmani I kept here at our house in an east facing window, and the other I took to my office and put in a north facing window. Well the one at our house lived for a while and even had a flower bloom. However shortly after it died. The one I took to my office was forgotten about for the whole summer and by the time we remembered it was there 5 or 6 big long roots growing in the bottle!! My friend Kellie and I were sooo excited. I actually took it up there and put it in her office window. I was supposed to be for her, but once we saw that it actually lived we decided that it should be for one of my neighbors. There is this little old lady on the next street up from us that walks around the block all the time and she always stops and gazes at our yard, and she always asks if we have found out what type that clematis is and where she can find one, but we always tell her, sorry we have no idea. She told us that she has unofficially adopted us because she loves our yard! She always tells us..."you can tell a lot about people from their front entrance", and she thinks ours is the shizzle!! So I felt bad about it, but once I told Kellie about my neighbor she said..."you have to give it to her". By the way Kellie is also the shizzle, and if anyone needs any title or escrow assistance you should give me a call and I will hook you up with her!! So anyway back to this clematis growing in the bottle. I call up this master green thumb that I know...Phillip, and ask him if we should wait til spring and plant it right out of the bottle, or plant it in a pot now. He tells us to pot it up now then plant it in the spring from the pot...Genius Phillip!! We planted it and it looked a little sad for a month or so but I went in on Friday and check it out.....

All that green in the circle is brand new growth!!! Woo Hoo...Success. I can't wait til spring to take it over to our neighbor. She'll be so excited.
The End
